When I was preparing for this speech,I asked my friends to pick two words to describe the generation born after 1990.Someone said “crazy”,someone said “selfish”,one of them even said "Brain-Damaged” -- which means that if your brain has two portions - the left and right parts - then your left brain has nothing right and your right brain has nothing left.The moment I heard about it,I just laughed my brain out.
Speaking of the post-90s,most of us would think of a young skinny girl wearing the unconventional style of dress,using the brand new I-phone 4 to send Martian language to her friends while moving her fingers on the screen of her I-pad surfing the world-wide web.
As the first generation growing up with internet,post-90s have no memory of China's turbulent past.Unlike their grannies and parents,they haven’t been through the second world war,the civil war leading to the establishment of the Republic,the cultural revolution and so on and so forth.They literally grew up in a greenhouse,well protected from the wind and rain and untested against any adverse environment.Probably owing to the one child policy,most of them are spoilt rotten by their parents and grannies,getting everything in their ways and seldom being punished even if they have done something seriously wrong at home.They spend most of their time seeking enjoyment by spending their parent’s hard-earned money.China’s rapid economic growth in the past decade had brought about rampant consumerism while globalization helped importing Western style of living standards.One thing for sure is - they are different from the former generation.
